Packaging

The product came inside a zip-lock  plastic bag, and packaged HobbyKing style, inside a cardboard box. 

Each side metal plate was coated on one side with plastic coating, so it would prevent scratching during molding process.

Story

The Vandal is one of my favourite cars (well, I don't have too many and most of them are cheap - To name them: Quanum Vandal, Trooper SCT, FS-Racing Monster Truck,  Tamiya CC-01 Pajero, Vaterra Ascender Blazer KIT, and also had a H.King Rattler, now sold). I really love the way it is built and the quality of the plastic. The hardware (all-around great quality hex screws), the upgrades that are available, the speed, durability, all that makes it my favourite.

I've written in the past about the durability issues of this car, but with some simple (but expensive) upgrades, this is now history. Just to name a few upgrades:

• aluminium chassis or chassis plate (if the whole chassis is too much for your budget)
• H.King "Desert Fox" front bumper (or the one from Short-Course version - same part)
• bigger wheels and tires :) (I used Short-Course tires)

I use stock shocks (no leak, smooth operation), stock plastic spur (never changed, the original is still perfect), stock pinion, a 3300 KV eBay brushless motor, Hobbyking 120A ESC. This car is super fast, stable, jumps great... The sway bars perform so well. The only noticeable problem with parts are ball joints, they bind badly, but you can easily use joints from other brands.

Intro

The initial review ended with a brushed choice of motor and ESC. They were terrible!!! At first run with 3S LiFePO4 after 20 meters the ESC would stop... And the speed was sooo lame, like 5 Mph.

After this I went back to brushless 3300KV and the truggy body. It was fun to run at the track, and in the park. That is until a screw untightened and I lost a dogbone from the back. That was fun... at HobbyKing it was in BACKORDER, at the local store not in stock as well, a 4mm shorter version from HSP/Ebay proved to be too short after a pack and popped out (lost). The FTX Vantage part from Ebay (FTX Vantage: Rear Drive Shaft (1pc) FTX6214) saved me, as it was a perfect fit :)

Intro

This truck had been covered by so many reviewers that is hard for me to say something new. Still, one more perspective cannot hurt, right?

I bought the kit version from HobbyKing so that is the one I will write about.

The packaging was nice and intact and arrived to my door (in Romania that is) from Holland for just about $15. Not much, considering local delivery (same city) is about $5. I was surprised to find that all the screws were perfectly tightened (I could have not done a better job myself) and all the parts were there. Other guys on forums complained about screws, but for me was perfect. The diffs seemed well shimmed, so the first impression was great.

The parts are somewhat expensive and hard to find outside Germany (in Romania it is). The shipping cost usually exceeds or is too high compared to spare part price. Upgrade parts (ex. Aluminium) are basically nonexistent for this model. What to do about that, you ask?
